Beach

The beach is a great reason to visit Our Happy Place. Olivia Beach is exceptional for several reasons. Because our beach access is a bit obscure, the beach is seldom crowded, even during peak season. You can walk for miles in both directions!

To the south your walk ends at Siletz Bay, where you can see the Salishan Spit right across the bay inlet. If you continue along the bayshore, you will find Mo’s and the Taft district. To the north, you can walk to D River, then cross the highway bridge and walk all the way to Cascade Head. At low tide, you can see spectacular tide pools in the rocks just north of the access stairs.

A few words of caution to observe at the beach:

When observing the tide pools, please try not to disturb the creatures. Despite their appearance, they can be delicate. Please be aware of the tide when exploring the rocks. It is best to explore during the ebb tide so as to avoid getting surprised by incoming waves.

Even when the tide is out however, waves can approach unexpectedly. Because of the rocks nearby, it may be wise to protect feet with water shoes when playing in the waves. If you observe the beach at low tide, you can find the best places to avoid the rocks. Also, ocean temperatures in Oregon are never warm, so beware of hypothermia, even on our rare warm and sunny days.

Finding the Beach

The beach is a short walk. It’s a picturesque introduction to the neighborhood too! To begin, exit through the back door, continue down the stairs and out to the alley. Turn left then take the path across the alley to your right between the houses that leads to the park. The park is a great family gathering spot for all seasons. It’s exclusive to Olivia Beach guests!

Take the path through the park, across the bridge, then follow the path under the arbor to the southwest corner of the park. Observe the custom built, Nantucket style homes and beautifully landscaped grounds in all directions. There’s no neighborhood quite like it! Feel free to take a stroll along the more hidden avenues enjoying the quiet moments in this wonderful community.

Across the street, you will find a boardwalk and staircase leading up to Anchor Avenue.

Continue up the hill and next to the driveway of the second house across the street you will find a path across the driveway to the staircase down to the beach. The is a sign pointing the way to the beach. You can’t miss it!

If you prefer an alternative to the stairs, there is a more gravity-friendly beach access a few blocks south on Anchor Avenue.

This is also the best way to get bikes to the beach. Head out the front door then south on Beach Ave.
